Day 7: Driving to Albuquerque, NM

This morning was great.  We got up at a decent time so we could go out hiking and sightseeing before it got too hot.  It actually felt quite pleasant this morning.  We took Lulu, our furry family member, and headed out for our walk through part of the canyon.  We hiked between 2 and 3 miles through valleys with granite on either side and cactus were everywhere.  It was a very nice, peaceful walk except for the fact that I had rattlesnakes in the back of my mind!  We didn't come across as much wildlife as we had hoped.  We saw some birds, a couple lizards and I snapped a photo of a cottontail rabbit crossing the trail ahead of us.  Lulu loved the walk!  She was so excited to go exploring and she LOVES chasing lizards!  After a while, the temperature starting rising quickly so we decided it was time to go in.
We left Amarillo this afternoon to make our way towards New Mexico where we'll stay tonight and probably tomorrow night.  Old Town, Albequerque looks like it has a lot of history as well as cool shopping and dining so I'm sure we'll check that out.  I can't believe by the end of week 1, we've made it about three-quarters of the way across the country!  When we get to AZ, NV and CA, we plan to slow it down some and spend more nights in those places.  Hope everyone at home is having a nice summer and staying cool!!
(still having photo trouble but I hope to get some more uploaded soon!)
