Today is Kevin's 40th birthday so, "Happy Birthday, babe!". And what did we start out doing on his birthday? Taking a hot air balloon ride in Albuquerque, NM. We had to be there at 5:45am (7:45 NC time) but the kids were so excited, they hopped right up and got themselves ready. It was a neat experience. It was a little slower than we expected and a lot hotter! I thought that leaving so early in the morning, it would be cool up in the air--even wondering if we should take jackets. Well, I was wrong! The fire used to propel the balloons keeps it plenty toasty up there! It was beautiful and we were right over the Rio Grande as seen in the pics below. We got up to around 4,000 feet in the air. Afterwards they had a continenal breakfast for us (if you consider prepackaged muffins and granola bars breakfast) and we received a certificate and flight pin. Kevin says we can all check this off our bucket list now! :)
We are sitting at an Auto Glass place at the present moment. Kevin wants to get the front side windows tinted because it gets so hot in the driver and passenger seats with the sun beating down on you. He couldn't take it anymore--he was drenched in sweat after the drive from Amarillo to Albequerque! Hopefully it will take about 45 minutes and then we'll be on our way towards the Grand Canyon!
Up, Up and Away in our beautiful balloon!
We weren't the only balloon in the sky--in fact there were several others.
The Rio Grande
Flying high!
Enjoying the view!
Those are inactive volcanoes back behind the balloons.
That is awesome! I am really enjoying your adventures and am living vicariously through you! Can't wait for the Grand Canyon!
