Yesterday was my birthday but not a lot of celebrating was going on. First of all, my stomach was still not back to 100%. 6 days! Probably the longest a bug like that has lasted with me that I can remember.
We left Detroit and drove towards upper Michigan or "the U.P." as the locals call it! :) But in true RV'ing form, another issue arose and we blew a tire on our trailer that is pulling our car. We ended up at a Wal-Mart for two hours getting new tires. My birthday dinner was Taco Bell and we finally got settled in at our campground around 9:30 that night.
Today has been much better than yesterday. We took the ferry over to Mackinac Island at the suggestions of our family in Detroit and it was just beautiful! We rented bikes because there are no cars allowed on the island so it's bikes or horse drawn carriages. The island is 8 miles around but it is mostly flat so I thought I would be OK. (besides the detour uphill we took to see a not so impressive cave!) My fanny hurts from the bike seat and I may feel it tomorrow but we probably did 10 miles on the bikes not to mention the 207 steps we climbed to see the Arch Rock. More exercise than I've done in a while!
We also toured Fort Mackinac which was pretty cool--Kevin loves the historical stuff. It was a great day to be outside besides just a little drizzle of rain! Well, and the fact that the island had a slight stench of horse poo from all the carriages! :)
We also had to get some fudge because we had heard that the island had the most awesome fudge! There were at least 8 or more fudge shops on the main street alone! We happily sampled from a few and picked our faves before catching the ferry back this evening. We will be driving across the U.P. tomorrow towards our next stop, Green Bay, WI. Go Packers!
